Designing Audi's digital customer experience across web and iOS
Overview
myAudi is Audi's customer portal at myAudi.com, serving millions of Audi customers worldwide. For over seven years, I contributed to its continuous development as a UX/UI designer in an international, interdisciplinary team — working on both the web platform and the iOS app.
My work spanned the entire design process: from early concept ideation and user research through wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing to final UI design handoff. I collaborated closely with product owners, developers, and stakeholders across multiple countries and time zones.
The Challenge
As Audi's primary digital touchpoint for customers, myAudi needed to deliver a seamless experience across web and native mobile platforms while continuously evolving with new features. Key challenges included:
- Maintaining consistency across web and iOS while respecting platform-specific conventions
- Designing complex workflows — like service booking and EV charging planning — in a way that felt intuitive for diverse user groups
- Coordinating design decisions across international teams operating within the SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework)
- Balancing feature richness with interface simplicity in an enterprise environment
The Process
Working within an agile framework, I followed a user-centered design process:
- Research & Discovery: Conducted user interviews and analyzed existing usage data to identify pain points and improvement opportunities
- Concept & Wireframing: Created low-fidelity wireframes and user flows to explore different interaction approaches
- Prototyping: Built interactive prototypes for stakeholder reviews and usability testing
- Usability Testing: Planned and conducted moderated usability tests with focus groups, iterating on designs based on user feedback
- UI Design: Delivered pixel-perfect UI designs adhering to Audi's design system while pushing for improvements
- Design System Maintenance: Contributed to and maintained the cross-platform design system for consistency
The Solution
Key features I designed and contributed to:
- Service Appointment Booking: An end-to-end booking flow allowing customers to schedule service appointments at their preferred Audi dealership, with calendar integration and real-time availability
- EV Charging Planning: An interface for electric vehicle owners to plan charging sessions, view charging station availability, and manage charging preferences
- Multi-Platform Consistency: Ensured a coherent experience between the web portal and the iOS app, adapting patterns for each platform's conventions
- Usability Improvements: Iterative refinements based on user testing sessions that improved task completion rates and user satisfaction
